M.K.D Interim Secretary for Economic Affairs Presents M.K.D Position on Indigenisation at a MPOI Public Seminar PDF Print E-mail

As Mavambo.Kusile.Dawn (MKD) we embrace the principle and spirit of genuine empowerment of the people of Zimbabwe. In any language it is a very noble concept indeed. Very loosely we can compare indigenisation to aid whereby it provides quick fix solutions, but fails to enrich the individual in the long term. Our view is that indigenisation, just like aid, should begin with HONEST intent. Goodwill. Followed by due diligence of both parties involved. Therafter one can usher in mentoring programmes, build broad skills base, jobs, knowledge and insights before gradually extending to the material exchange of ownership. The process and results are not instantaneous. The sequencing is important because the value that is created is what should eventually be converted into investment. For the last 30 years, government has only paid lip-service to those issues. But now suddenly they are fast tracking to beat the elections deadline!

M.K.D Interim Secretary for Economic Affairs, Florence Sachikonye

The Independent newspaper last week reported Zanu PF saying that indigenisation was” their last political card.” Sure right they are because they know they have nothing else to offer. All this steam is about trying to win votes. The institution of indigenisation has been hi-jacked as a political campaign tool based on self-preservation. The prosperity of the Zimbabwean public is the least part of that equation.

Bunking of Parliamentary Sessions PDF Print E-mail
Recent revelations that whole ministers are bunking parliamentary
sessions and evading questions regarding the performance of their
ministries shows utter contempt and disrespect of the country’s
institutions and the people that voted them into office. Making up the
line up are the Home Affairs co-ministers Kembo Mohadi (Zanu PF) and
Theresa Makone (MDC-T), Minister of State Security in the President’s
Office Sydney Sekeramayi (Zanu PF), and Minister of Local Government,
Urban and Rural Development Ignatius Chombo (Zanu PF). For some in the
line up, history records that such misdemeanor is part of their stay
in government as they have become “bigger” than the country’s
institutions.

Zimbabwe: Makoni Awakening from Slumber PDF Print E-mail

Tinashe Madava| Financial Gazzette
ONCE touted as a potential successor to President Robert Mugabe, Simba Makoni, who now leads his own political party, Mavambo.Kusile.Dawn (M.K.D), is increasingly receiving more media attention.
President Mugabe’s jibe at Makoni during his party’s Central Committee meeting two weeks ago could have contributed to his former protégé’s responses, awash in the press of late. But with increasing talk of elections, if Makoni has to be taken seriously by the country’s electorate, he has to be known to exist in the political arena. He has to be known as a serious politician. Makoni was one of the youngest cabinet ministers at independence. His posting to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as secretary-general swelled speculation at the time, that President Mugabe was grooming him as his successor and so was giving him the international exposure needed. But on his return from Gaborone, Makoni was made chief executive of Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited before he was catapulted to finance minister in 2000. While he might have had good prospects to succeed President Mugabe, his decision to challenge the ZANU-PF leader in 2008 saw him start his current journey outside the comforts of ZANU-PF and a little further from the throne. Whether this has increased his chances of ascending to the presidency of the country is going to be determined by his ability to outsmart President Mugabe, Welshman Ncube, of the smaller formation of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and MDC-T’s Morgan Tsvangirai at the polls expected either this year or next year. His pedigree is up for testing this time around.
